When my husband and I first bought our house, one of the first get-togethers we hosted was a huge Super Bowl party for all of our friends. We declared we would host this party every year, not really realizing at the time how having kids would change our lives. The following year, our annual Super Bowl party was also a diaper party for my husband since I was pregnant with our first child. It was so much fun to celebrate in this unique way. That was definitely one of my favorite parties we have thrown.
After that, we were adjusting to life with a new baby so the following year our party was a little bit smaller. Then I was pregnant again, and then the pandemic hit, so each year our raging party got a little more intimate. What remained consistent was lots of good food and of course some festive decorations and good friends (although these days the party is more of a Puppy Bowl party for our kids and their friends. If we’re lucky, my husband and I get the girls to bed in time to at least watch the halftime show).
Something that makes me laugh every year is that now 6 years after our first Super Bowl party, I still have plates and napkins left over because of how much I had ordered. I also bought generic football decorations that we are able to reuse each year. For my parties, I like to make a few appetizers and a dessert and provide the main entrees. We also provide some wine and beer as well as sodas and bottled water (and nowadays lots of juice boxes) but we also ask our guests to BYOB. Everyone usually brings an appetizer or dessert to share as well, so no matter how many people we have over, we always have way too much food! The first two years we had the party, we actually ordered catering with pizza, wings, pasta, salad, and dinner rolls. These days we just order pizza and wings. I have kept up the tradition of making the same appetizers each year, which I will share below.
My Go-To Super Bowl Party Food:
Pigs in a Blanket https://www.delish.com/cooking/recipe-ideas/a58344/homemade-pigs-in-a-blanket-recipe/
Soft Pretzels with Beer Cheese Dip (I buy two boxes of Super Pretzel pretzel bites and just make the cheese part of the recipe) https://www.delish.com/cooking/recipe-ideas/recipes/a49208/pretzel-ring-beer-cheese-dip-recipe/
Cocktail Meatballs https://www.delish.com/cooking/recipe-ideas/recipes/a50599/slow-cooker-party-meatballs-recipe/
Potato chips with Helluva Good French Onion Dip (easy and everyone loves, I tend to have this around the tv for a little snack for people watching the game)
Buffalo Chicken Dip I love to serve this with tortilla chips but you can also use crackers and/or celery
Cupcakes (I will usually buy these from a local bakery, but I’ve also been known to make box-mix cupcakes!)
Brownies (I love and only ever buy Ghiradelli brand Double Chocolate box brownies, don’t judge me!)
I absolutely love to serve my desserts on this tiered dessert tray, one of my favorite Amazon purchases ever! It looks like an expensive antique but is so affordable. (I also love to give this as a bridal shower gift with a baking cookbook!)
These foods paired with some sheet pizzas and chicken wings make for a fun and festive party! I look forward to hosting this party every year because even though I’m not a huge sports fan, I do love to eat good food and watch the halftime show :) And let’s be honest, we could all use something fun to look forward to in the dead of winter! Let me know if you decide to use any of these tips for your own party! What are some of your favorite football party foods?
