I have recently found myself at a plateau with my weight loss and have decided to try a higher protein approach. I’ve never been a fan of low-carb diets, but I’ve recently read that having a higher amount of protein in the morning (30-50 grams) can keep you fuller, help you eat fewer calories throughout the day, and help regulate your hormones. My hormones seem to be the leading cause of falling off of the healthy eating bandwagon, so I am giving this a try! I’ll post an update on how well it works. So far I have definitely noticed that I’ve been having lunch later in the day because I’m not as hungry… but it’s only been a few days :)
The main ingredients are the same as my other favorite smoothie recipes already on the blog. I love to start my day with a serving of spinach and berries (preferably organic for both) for all of the healthy nutrients. I took out the oats for this recipe to make it lower carb, but I add them back in on my harder Orange Theory workout days. I did reduce the amount I use from 1/2 cup to 1/4 cup (or sometimes 1/3, I just go by how hungry I feel). I absolutely love the taste and texture of this smoothie, it is so creamy and delicious! I hope you enjoy it!
Ingredients:
2 cups spinach (I use 2 big handfuls)
4-6 frozen strawberries (depending on size)
1/4 cup oats
2 T ground flax seeds
1 scoop protein powder (I use/love Tone It Up vanilla)
2 T Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides
3/4 cup original almond milk
1 cup cold water
Instructions:
Blend & Enjoy!
